Wednesday February 20th, Plume Labs named to Fast Company’s annual list of the world’s most innovative companies for 2019
When we founded Plume Labs almost 5 years ago, we could never imagine that we would be named one of the top 10 most innovative companies in the world along with Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Dell! This is a huge honor and, we believe, it it also recognition of the important role that personal, environmental tech has to play in the fight for clean air.
So what is Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies List?
The World’s Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy. The list honors the businesses making the most profound impact on both industry and culture, showcasing a variety of ways to thrive in today’s volatile world.
What does this mean for Plume Labs?
We can assure you that, despite this amazing honour, we are not any richer, better looking, or less accessible. We’re still the same people passionate for atmospheric science, neural networks, and mapping the air that we were yesterday.
What has changed though, is the reinforcement of our mission to make environmental information accessible and empowering. We believe that the defining questions of this age are also the most complex. We create technology to demystify these problems, because problems you can help quantify are problems you can help solve. However, access to data isn’t enough: the data needs to be both inviting and compelling, it must make you want to dig for root causes.
We see that with the right information at the right time, wisdom can take over panic. And when wisdom has the upper hand, the urgency of the problem can be channeled into imagining solutions rather than endings.
This recognition by Fast Company means we can spread this message faster and further than ever before.
First and foremost, we remain feverishly focused on Flow—making it the best personal air pollution sensor possible. There’s no question of resting on these laurels.
With or without Fast Company, 2019 has been the year of Flow—building our community in Europe and the United States, but also in new countries, on new continents. We’re pushing the app to new heights with features, fixes, and face-lifts. The team is tirelessly animating our data to make it more interactive, actionable, and engaging. Ultimately, we’re working to bring people together to finish air pollution for good.
These are tall orders and there’s a long, dusty road ahead. We’ve made huge steps forward this year and together we’ll go far.
A huge thank you to all who have been on this journey with us and who continue to share our vision of future free of pollution.
David and Romain
